About Me

Thomas Velvin
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Rawl's College of Business at Texas Tech University with a major in Business Management. I was a student-athlete competing on the Texas Tech Cross Country and Track and Field Teams. After earning the Eagle Scout Rank in the Boy Scouts of America and competing at the collegiate level, I understand what it means to dedicate lots of time and effort to a team goal. Since I have learned the strength of time management from balancing academics and athletics, I would love to apply that in the work field. I want to be involved in a group that is willing to work hard and be passionate about the efforts they put into a project.

Collegiate Running
Running at the collegiate level is both a mental and physical game. Not only do you have to run 70+ mile weeks that consist of regular runs, workouts, long runs, and races, but you learn a college-level education on top of that. Having to balance these different activities is challenging but teaches you time management and self-discipline.

Boy Scouts of America
I was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for around 10 years. During my time scouting, I learned many skills that I could apply to my day-to-day life. I held leadership positions in my troop, where I had different things to manage, like patrols and gear. Each merit badge expanded my general knowledge of how to be a good person.

Volunteering
Giving back to the community has always been a hobby of mine. I have always tried to find ways to make a positive impact on the people around me. Some examples are when I volunteered at an aquarium to teach the public about the local marine life and when I volunteered at a food bank to prepare food for the homeless.

Suited for Success
Texas Tech University offers a program to its student-athletes called Suited for Success. In this program, we are taught everything needed to start your career, including resume building, dinner etiquette, and effective interviewing. This course has made me more professional and more prepared to step out into the real world.
